Necessary Elements in Your Web Site

Here are the elements you need to have in your personal web site:

     1. Index Page
     2. Photoshop Exercise
     3. Video Exercise (actual or link)
     4. HTML CV
     5. Flash CV
     6. Link to you by email

One Week to Go!

Hopefully you know have all of the screens finished for your interactive CV.  With this done you can think about how you might create an engaging interface to surround your personal information.  Bring all of the elements you need next week and we will put them altogether.

Next time we will also put your SWF (flash movie) into an HTML file and get it up onto your website.  There are a couple of ways to do this.

If there is something specific you would like me to show you next week, please let me know by responding to this post or sending me an email.  This additional things could be animations or some ways to make a more interesting resume.  You could also ask me to review more of what we have already covered.

Technology Blog Due 1st April

The technology blogs are coming along really well.  I am looking forward to learning some new things about a wide variety of technologies and perhaps discovering some new tools I can use in class and in life.  I will give you more direct comments over the coming holiday.

The auction reports look good and it looks as though some good lessons about using new media were learned.  The web does not just supply the place where the world can come to buy but the web also supplies the place where the world can find out about things they are interested in.

We will work with the video today and then next week we will get started with interactive media, conceptually and practically as you get some exposure to flash.  I hope this will be useful for everyone and I know that everyone will learn something new, even if you are a seasoned user of flash.

Blogging

Remember you need to maintain a blog for this class.  In the blog you will need to make 10 entries about communication technology before the end of the semester.  This is also the place where you will talk about your internet auction or internet sale.

Here is the current state of the blogs for the students in this class.  I connect to your blog using your follower image on the class blog, this blog:

Ka Ho - Not yet subscribed to the blog so I don't know if you have started your blog/ don't know about your auction-sale

Queenie - blog on auction need to be sure to blog on technology as well

Hoffman - blog on auction need to be sure to blog on technology as well

     Charmaine - subscribed but can't connect to a 7200 blog/don't know about your auction-sale

Monica - blog on auction need to be sure to blog on technology as well

Maggie - be sure to blog on Technology as well

DDBear - blog on auction need to be sure to blog on technology as well

Kitt - blog on auction need to be sure to blog on technology as well, didn't see where I can sign on as a follower.

Chloe - you have a good start with mass media and ipad

Susan - be sure to blog on technology

Jerry - subscribed but can't connect to a 7200 blog

Joy - found it and I can see that you are blogging

If you have some free time over the holiday week you should look up some technologies and write what you think about them in your blog.

Happy New Year of the Tiger!

Photoshop Exercise - 11 February 2010

In the next class we will be working exclusively on your Photoshop exercise.

Your final photoshop composite will need to have the following:

The background will combine elements from at least two original photographs.  The background is the part of the image that supplies the context and foundation of the image.  It is the place where the action has or will happened.

There will be at least five figure elements in the final composite.  Figure elements are the parts of an image that have the potential to move.  A figure element could exist in any number of environments.  A figure element has the greatest flexibility in terms of placement within the composition.

There needs to be a story behind the entire composite.  Why are the figures within the particular context and what does the combination of elements say to people who are looking at it.  Why would anyone care about what you have put together in the frame.

In making your composite you will need to apply some of the design principles discussed in class in order to make an image that is visually interesting as well as meaningful.

Bring any digital files you need or any images that you might need to scan.

23 January 2010

21 January 2009

Two sessions of class and we are well on our way.

The first class gave you an idea of where we are going and this second class let's you know exactly how we will get there.

Each class will generally follow this same structure.  The first half will be theoretical, conceptual, topical and/or historical while the second half will involve engagement with new communication technology and design.  There will be several classes where we spend the entire time immersed in working with the technology.

I appreciate everyone actively working with Illustrator.  That is why the class takes place in the lab.  Next week we will start working with Photoshop.  We will learn an array of basic photoshop skills and integrate what we have learned in Illustrator.

We will also talk about fundamental telecommunication technologies.  How they operate and connect people locally and globally.

Finally, remember that you need to have your auction groups of two formed and you need to create a blog and post your first entry on what you will sell.  This year we have one interesting variation on this assignment as one group will be selling a second hand book on Amazon.  This will an interesting new experience for us all to share and demonstrates that you have the opportunity to take advantage of the most consistently profitable business on the Internet: Amazon.
